RECREATION FACILITIES AND SERVICES -

The Village of Little Chute Parks, Recreation & Forestry Department is in the process of updating our Comprehensive Outdoor Recreation Plan (CORP). Rettler Corporation of Stevens Point will be assisting in the process.

The CORP is an important document that assists public officials and parks staff in making decisions about facilities and services in the coming years and public input is an important part of the plan.

We are looking for input from people that use village parks and their amenities. We hope that you will be willing to assist us by completing our needs assessment survey by the Friday, November 21 survey deadline.

20th Anniversary Celebration

The Gerard H. Van Hoof Library in Little Chute will be enjoying its 20th year of service to the community this year! Help us celebrate this occasion at our Anniversary Celebration scheduled for Saturday, November 1st. We'll have refreshments, prize drawings, book giveaways, face painting, henna tattoos, crafts, and activities for the entire family. Be sure to note the following events and plan to spend the day with us.

10:15AM - Kiddie Costume Parade with McGruff
Hey, kids! Put that Halloween costume back on and join in our costume parade being led by McGruff the Crime Dog.

10:30AM - Stuart Stotts in Concert
Madison-area author and singer, Stuart Stotts, will help us celebrate with fun songs and stories for the whole family!

11:00AM to 1:00PM - Festive Balloons
Local balloon artist Dorothy Vander Wyst will be on hand to create fun balloon creatures for library visitors.

11:45AM to 1:00PM - Lawrence University Academy of Music
Students from the Lawrence University Academy of Music will share their talents on the library stage. Enjoy violins, cellos, and guitars.

Best-selling Wisconsin author, Michael Perry, will visit and help us celebrate reading, writing, and libraries.

Wild Flower Planting at Island Park

Mother Nature has been providing us with some magnificent colors in Little Chute.  As the leaves change and the colors come out in abundance, numerous families are enjoying the fall beauty at Island Park and Heesakker Park.  The recent addition of a large wild flower planting on the levy hillside at Island Park is a site to see right now!  That is why our favorite color is October!  The pictures of the blooming wild flowers are gorgeous, and we hope you agree.

This is the Village’s first wild flower planting project in a park.  The planting is located on the north side of Island Park, which is the canal levy hillside.  The hillside planting area is over 300 feet and it contains over a dozen different wild flowers, including Larkspur, Four-O’Clock, Lupine, Poppy, Gaura, Poppy, Mint, Marigold, and more.  This deer resistant planting provides an improved habitat for birds & butterfly’s, improves the aesthetic beauty of the park, and also reduces the village’s costs to maintain the parks open space. 

This new addition is one of many alongside the Heritage Parkway Trail that connects Island Park to Heesakker Park.  If you haven’t yet checked out the trail, or even if it’s been a while, there’s no better time than October.  The paved asphalt trail is accessible by everyone.  You can enjoy this wonderful trail for exercise, recreation, or just sightseeing.  Take a break and enjoy the view of the Fox River on one of several memorial benches along your journey.  While on the pedestrian bridge connecting the parks, there is a scenic overlook area in the middle of the bridge that is well worth the stop.  This is where you can get a birds-eye view of the Combined Lock.  This vantage point is a great spot for picture taking as the view is something you have to see. 

Get on out to Island Park, enjoy the walking trail, and be sure to tell your friends!  Remember to bring your four legged friends as well.  Dogs that are leashed and licensed are always welcome to enjoy the trail.  Please be a responsible pet owner and pick up after your pet.  There are several waste receptacles along the path for your convenience.    We truly hope that everyone enjoys all the wonders our Little Chute parks have to offer.

“Heart of the Valley Hospitality, Customer Service Subject of Workshop”

(Little Chute)     With the long-awaited grand opening of the Little Chute Windmill just over a month away, Heart of the Valley area is taking stock of its visitor readiness.  The opening is expected during Kermis , one of Little Chute’s major Dutch heritage events.

A free hospitality & customer service workshop by the Wisconsin Department of Tourism’s David Spiegelberg will be offered twice on Thursday, August 28^th.  It will be held 7:30 – 9:00 a.m. at Van Hoof Library in Little Chute, then again from 10:30 – 12:00 noon at Heart of the Valley Chamber offices in Kaukauna.

                The workshop is designed for front-line staff, managers, business owners, public-serving agencies, and volunteers.  Workshop hosts include Little Chute Business Association, Heart of the Valley Chamber of Commerce, Village of Little Chute, and Outagamie County UW-Extension.

                Two general questions that will be put to participants in the workshop are “what does your welcome mat look like?” and “what is your visitor preparedness strategy?”.  To help answer these questions, workshop topics will address:  basics of customer service; showing pride in your region; defusing angry customers; proper service for diverse customers; and, customer service in the digital age.

Are You Ready For Some Jets Football?

Down, Set, Hike!  As summer winds down and fall sets in, sports fan's thoughts naturally turn to football.  Football fans can see the stars of tomorrows big league games in action as another season of Jets Football has kicked off.  The players have been working out and having hard hitting practices at Van Lieshout Park for weeks now, and players and coaches alike are fired up for Tuesday's big season opener.  We kick off our season at home against longtime rival Freedom on Tuesday, August 19.  Judging from the work the players have been putting in, they're up for the challenge.

For those new to the program, Jets Football was started in the Village of Little Chute in 1971 and is currently one of 11 teams belonging to the Heart of the Valley Football League.  The league does not encourage the "winning is everything" or "win at all cost" philosophy.  This level of competition is intended to be a safe and fun experience for both the players and coaches.  The Little Chute Jets Football program consists of three teams - a 6th grade team, a 7th grade team, and an 8th grade team.  They play eight games in their season, with four games played at home on the Little Chute High School football field.
