PRESS RELEASE: Village of Little Chute’s Mill Street Bridge Project Starts in August

Little Chute, WI. (August 3, 2015) – The Village of Little Chute’s Mill Street Bridge project will commence today, August 3rd, 2015.  The long anticipated project will see the complete demolition and removal of the original bridge, built in 1928.  The new bridge set to be constructed will be a pedestrian lift bridge to accommodate the operation of the Little Chute Lock and the 2016 boating season.

The new bridge will be a bascule type bridge that will accommodate both bicycle and pedestrian traffic to the popular Island Park in Little Chute.  In addition, the bridge will accommodate passing boat traffic in the lock system through the Little Chute Canal.  Through a collaborative process, this Transportation Enhancement project includes funding from the Federal Highway Administration, Outagamie County and the Village of Little Chute.

For residents and users of Little Chute’s Heritage Parkway Trail on Island Park, an important factor to plan for during construction is the removal of access to Island Park from Mill Street. Once the contractor begins mobilizing onto the site, access will not be available from the Mill Street location.  Access to Island Park will still be available from the Village’s Heesakker Park during construction.  As you plan your recreation outings on the Heritage Parkway Trail, please take into account that the Mill Street Bridge access will not be available.

Due to the immense popularity and use that the Heritage Parkway Trail generates, the Village wants to inform the greater public of this closure.  We look forward to a new and improved pedestrian bridge and site upon completion of the project in the spring of 2016.  For a map of the Heritage Parkway Trail system, please visit the following link:
