Attention Little Chute Residents: Wheel Tax Alert

By now, residents may have started to receive vehicle registration renewals from the Wisconsin Department of Motor Vehicles for 2015.  These renewals are being mailed to registrations that are expiring in February of 2015 and if your renewal notice contains the incorrect municipality, it could cost you an extra $20.

Renewals being mailed include a message of where the vehicle is actually kept.  For an example, check out the image below.

While there certainly are mailing addresses in the Village of Little Chute that have an Appleton mailing address, this does not mean those residents are required to pay Appleton's newly enacted wheel tax.  If you feel your registration incorrectly calls out the municipality that your vehicle is kept in, write in the name of the municipality you live in on the registration card.  Return the card with check minus the additional $20 for the Appleton wheel tax.  You can also contact the Department of Transportation Vehicle Records Section/Research and Information for help at:

  • Email: vehiclequestions@dot.wi.gov - please reference 'Appleton' in the subject line.  Email should include VIN or plate number of the vehicle.
  • Phone: 608-266-1466 between 7:30 AM and 4:30 PM Monday through Friday

Any contacts/requests to change the actual location or address of the vehicle needs to be made by the registered owner of the vehicle.
